What should component selection be like even when focusing on a budget PC? Performance or compatibility? Guys, how do you balance it?

For those looking to build a PC on a tight budget, the toughest decision is usually where to cut costs. Should we prioritize the CPU and GPU and keep the other components lower-end, or is it smarter to distribute the budget evenly across all parts? We also shouldn’t forget about RAM capacity, storage type, power supply capacity, and the cooling system. Do we have a long-term upgrade plan, or is the goal to meet all needs right from the start? What do you think about this? Which criteria do you prioritize, and what are your experiences? I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’d like to share.

This topic really focuses on choosing the right priorities. From my recent experience, with a limited budget of around $12-15k, I decided to prioritize the GPU since it directly impacts FPS in the games I play. I went for an RTX 3060 Ti instead of the regular RTX 3060 and kept the CPU at a reasonable level like the Ryzen 5 5600X. For the remaining components like RAM and SSD, I chose 16GB DDR4 and a 500GB NVMe, because the performance difference between 8GB and 16GB is noticeable, especially with modern games, and the SSD significantly speeds up load times compared to an HDD. In terms of compatibility, I didn’t skimp on the PSU; I picked a 550W unit from a reliable brand because stable power is crucial to avoid melting issues and stress on components. I also left enough room for future GPU upgrades, so if I want to upgrade to an RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 later, I won’t need to replace the PSU or the case fans. In short, prioritize the GPU, ensure good compatibility with the PSU and RAM, and always stay flexible with future plans so you can upgrade easily.
