I'm building a PC on a very tight budget, around €400-500, and I'm wondering what the best way to allocate those resources is. Should I prioritize the CPU, integrated GPU, or memory? In a 400-500€ build, the most effective approach is to allocate most of the budget to a decent CPU with integrated graphics and a 250GB+ SSD. Modern mid-to-low-end processors (like the AMD Ryzen 3 5600G or Intel i3-12100F with integrated GPU) provide enough graphical power for light gaming and office work, so a dedicated GPU can be saved for a future upgrade. A 250-300GB SATA-III NVMe SSD costs around 30-40€, but the system boot time improvement over an HDD is massive and doesn’t impact the GPU budget. RAM is also critical—don’t skimp on it. A pair of 8GB 3200MHz modules typically costs around 40-50€. With 16GB, you’ll have plenty of headroom for multitasking and allow the iGPU to use a reasonable amount of VRAM without performance drops. For the power supply, go for a 450-500W 80+ Bronze certified unit—not necessarily high-wattage, but efficient and stable to protect components and reduce long-term power consumption. Cooling can be kept simple: the stock cooler that comes with most modern CPUs is sufficient if the case has good airflow. Choose a case with at least two fans (front intake and rear exhaust) and avoid tightly sealed designs—the extra cost is minimal and helps keep temperatures in check, extending the lifespan of the CPU and iGPU. In short, prioritize CPU + iGPU + SSD + 16GB RAM, with a reliable PSU and good ventilation; the dedicated GPU can come later when the budget allows.
