When you're trying to fit a decent PC into a tight budget, the first thing to understand is where the real bottlenecks appear in everyday tasks. For office work, spreadsheets, and web browsing, the CPU doesn’t need to be a powerhouse—something like a Ryzen 5 5600G or an Intel i5-12400 offers plenty of performance without breaking the bank. What matters more for these tasks is a smooth memory subsystem, so I’d aim for at least 16 GB of DDR4 (2666 MHz or faster) right from the start. That gives you enough RAM to keep several apps open and lets the OS breeze past the usual “memory pressure” warnings. Storage is another easy win where you get a noticeable speed boost for minimal cost. A 500 GB NVMe SSD will cut seconds off boot and load times, and you can always add a larger SATA SSD or a cheap HDD later for bulk storage. The cooler you choose for your CPU should match the TDP you’re working with—stock coolers on these mid-range chips are fine for non-overclocked use. If you plan on gaming or occasional rendering, spend a little extra on a decent 120 mm tower fan; it’ll keep temperatures in check without turning your case into a noise box. Finally, think about the upgrade path when selecting a motherboard. A B550 or B660 board with a solid VRM and at least two M.2 slots gives you room to add a dedicated GPU later, upgrade the SSD, or even swap in a faster CPU if the socket supports it. Leaving a spare PCIe slot free is smart, but don’t overpay for high-end features you won’t use right now. In practice, I’ve built a “core-first” rig: solid CPU + 16 GB RAM + fast SSD, then added a budget GPU and a better cooler a few months later when cash flow improved. That way, you get immediate productivity, and the platform stays flexible for future upgrades.
