I'm curious, mate, how exactly does this photovoltaic thing work? Like, how does electricity actually come out of a panel? Does light alone do it, or are there other factors involved? That's what's been bugging me—how would you explain it?

Last year, they opened up a photovoltaic panel on YouTube, and I watched out of curiosity. Inside, I saw that the panel actually contains cells made of semiconductor materials. These are made from silicon—you know, that hard stuff you get from regular sand. Here's the key: when photons, which are light particles, hit the panel, they collide with the atoms in the semiconductor and free up electrons. These free electrons then create an electric current, so even if you plug it in, you get usable electricity. But honestly, light alone isn’t enough—factors like the panel’s angle, the sun’s height, and how clean it is play a huge role. On a cloudy day or with a dirty panel, efficiency plummets. Once, I forgot about my balcony panel for a while and didn’t clean it for ages—my power output dropped by half. After cleaning it, it went back to its old performance. So don’t just assume light is enough; panel maintenance matters too.
