The decline in cinema attendance as digital screens become more ingrained in our lives is no secret. But what’s interesting is that young people are the most affected by this trend. Recent studies show that viewers under 18 are visiting theaters far less frequently. Meanwhile, older audiences still see the cinema as a weekend pastime. So, what’s driving this shift? Is it the convenience of digital streaming, or is it a change in how cinemas themselves are evolving? Let’s discuss!

I think the biggest reason is the instant access and convenience that digital offers. Now anyone can watch any movie in seconds from their phone, tablet, or computer. When I was younger (I guess I'm still considered young 😅) I loved going to the cinema, but now whenever I say “Let’s go to the movies,” either someone sends a “Let’s start watching” message or a TV series episode calls my name. Watching a film from the comfort of home, at any time, even while eating, is so tempting. The atmosphere of a theater, the screen size, the sound system—those advantages aren’t enough for young people anymore. For most of them, going to the cinema has turned from a “special event” into just another “ordinary activity.”
