When I first started drifting with my Speedhifter on those initial city laps, it was the first time I noticed the center of gravity shifting outside the curve’s path, making an immediate counter-steer necessary. Instead of lifting the steering wheel like usual, I tried pulling it slightly in the same direction as the apex. The car’s front immediately snapped back inward, keeping it stable without sliding off the track. That quick adjustment reduced the loss of high torque and prevented a sudden slide. Over weeks of training, I broke the process into two parts: first, improving steering sensitivity by setting a slight wheel angle (1–2 degrees) and adjusting the LSD valve to minimize rear slip. Second, I worked on throttle timing—gradually pressing the pedal as I approached the apex, then easing off and applying counter-steer the moment I felt the center of gravity shift outside the curve. With repetition, the motion became almost automatic, and I could maintain a steady drift angle even at 80–100 km/h. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that counter-steer isn’t just a last-second trick—it’s a continuous correction tool. If neglected or delayed, the drift can spiral into a total loss of control, risking a full slide off the track. I’d advise any beginner to practice in a closed circuit, starting at low speeds and gradually increasing, while keeping an eye on the car’s center of gravity through the rearview. That way, theory turns into muscle memory, and drift control becomes more stable and safer.
