According to rumors, I've always wondered as someone who constantly daydreams, how does daydreaming affect brain activity? On the other hand, I've heard that excessive daydreaming can disrupt focus, but is there something else to it? In your opinion, how beneficial is daydreaming and when can it be harmful?

The impact of daydreaming on brain activity is actually quite profound. The brain starts operating in what we call the Default Mode Network (DMN). This mode kicks in when a person drifts into thoughts about themselves, their past, or their future. So, if you're someone who daydreams often, your brain spends more time in this mode, which can enhance creativity and problem-solving skills. Numerous studies show that daydreaming particularly boosts planning for the future and empathy. But of course, as with everything, too much of it can be harmful. Excessive daydreaming, especially when it involves unrealistic or detached-from-reality scenarios, can disrupt concentration. Getting too stuck in the DMN mode can make it hard to focus on present tasks. Research links this to attention deficits and even some anxiety disorders. So, whether daydreaming is beneficial or harmful depends on how and how much you do it. From personal experience, I know that daydreaming is truly effective when it's controlled and goal-oriented—like imagining future plans for a startup. But if you get so lost in daydreams that you detach from reality, that's when issues like loss of concentration and inefficiency start to creep in. So, balance is key, just like in everything else.
