I want to better understand the relationship between Latin rhythmic patterns and classical guitar scales when creating beats. How do producers structure the harmonic progression when blending a clave de son with a modal tonality? I'm interested in knowing which voice leading or chord inversion techniques are typically used to maintain the groove without losing melodic richness. Does anyone have resources or exercises that help practice this fusion? Let's share ideas and examples to learn together.

Thanks for starting this thread—it really helped clear up some of my doubts. In practice, I usually use the harmonic minor scale over a son clave and apply chord inversions (second and first) so the bass line follows the groove without breaking the melody; I also experiment with voice-leading using the diminished fifth before returning to the tonic. Have you tried combining a ii–V–I progression in Dorian mode with mambo clave patterns to see how it sounds?
