What methods are there to make my voice sound stronger on stage? I'm only interested in the technical side—general advice on things like compressor or EQ settings. How can I keep my voice's character while making it clearer and more dominant?
How do live sound amplification techniques work?

Bro, actually the compressor is your biggest lifesaver, but if you squash it you’ll kill the character of your voice too. I always set a fixed threshold on stage and use a 4:1 ratio. That way it automatically applies gain reduction when the sound spikes, but keeps its natural feel at normal levels. In the EQ section I usually boost around 3–5 kHz a bit because the human ear is more sensitive to those frequencies, making the sound clearer.
It’s also important to find the frequencies where your voice is strongest and give them a boost. For example, if your voice is weak in the highs you can raise it up to about 200 Hz, which will make the low end sound fuller. When I talk about preserving my tone I actually try to keep the EQ to a minimum, just enough to fix the problematic frequencies. Remember, a good live sound depends on everything being balanced—overemphasizing one frequency makes the others disappear.
I realized my voice sounded like a robot when I just dumped it straight into the compressor and cranked the EQ 😅. In my opinion, first dial in the gain reduction without overdoing it, then give a slight boost around 3–5 kHz so it comes out clear without losing your voice’s character. Trust me, I once baked my voice too, so be more careful! 🎤🔥
