Desktop or laptop? Which side do you lean towards in this dilemma? Do you work from the same spot in the office all the time, or are you on the move quite a bit? While desktops have the edge in power, expandability, and price-to-performance ratio, laptops take the lead in mobility and usability. What’s your pick based on? Which one fits your use case better?

I come from my programming job, and after 10 years of battling between desktops and laptops, I've ended up with both. At first, like many, I fell for the "all-terrain" laptop trap: I took it everywhere, plugged it in at the neighborhood café, at the downtown coworking space... Until one day I forgot to charge it at home and the battery died two hours before an important delivery. That's when I set up my home rig with a desktop that has plenty of watts, dual SSDs, and a 4K monitor that lasted me years. Now I use the desktop for heavy stuff: development, rendering, gaming when needed... and I reserve the laptop for external meetings or short trips where I need mobility, but with an external SSD so I can work just like at my desk. The key is knowing when you need raw power and when you need flexibility, and not forcing a single format. That said, now I invest more in decent peripherals for the desktop because I no longer trust small screens or travel keyboards.

I use a laptop because I'm constantly moving between classes at university—library, café, dorm, you name it. I once bought a model that could match my desktop's performance, but it was such a pain to carry around that I switched to a lightweight ultrabook. Now I can work anywhere, and when I do need to use my office desk, I just hook up an external monitor and keyboard.
