Yep, same happened to me; when I tested my 1967 Mustang after a hybrid conversion, the instant torque and acceleration really upped the driving fun. Thanks to regenerative braking, energy is recaptured even at low revs, so the classic engine’s usual “soft” response smoothed out and the risk of overheating in stop-and-go traffic dropped. Plus, mounting the battery pack inside the chassis rather than the front trunk keeps weight distribution from getting thrown off—sometimes it even improves grip a little.
Of course, there are downsides. The extra weight of the battery and controller, especially on the rear axle, means you often have to re-tune the suspension. Integrating the electric system with the original wiring and preserving the car’s classic look is a complex process, and some purists just don’t like that “modern” touch. Battery longevity and cooling needs also add to maintenance costs.
