I'm curious about your preferences between light and dark themes in user interface designs. Please evaluate the following three options: 1) Always light theme, 2) Always dark theme, 3) Automatic theme that changes according to system settings. Which option do you find more comfortable and why? If factors like eye strain, focus, or aesthetic perception influenced your decision, please share your thoughts.

Personally, I find themes that automatically switch based on system settings the most comfortable. During the day, when there's plenty of natural light, the light mode maintains visibility, and at night or in dim rooms, the dark mode reduces eye strain. Especially when coding for long hours, it's easier to stay focused when the screen brightness adjusts automatically. However, when doing design reviews for a project or sharing with clients who use different themes, slight color differences can be an issue. In those cases, switching to a fixed light or dark theme to maintain consistency might be the best option. By the way, how do you handle situations where you're working in a brightly lit office during the day? Does the automatic theme sometimes end up straining your eyes in that environment?

I've been on a dark-mode rollercoaster for the past few years. When I first switched my MacBook to a permanent dark theme back in 2021, I thought the sleek look would immediately reduce eye strain. For the first month, it was great—especially working late in a dim coffee shop, where the black wallpaper made the white text pop without blinding me. But after a while, I noticed that on bright, sunny days, the contrast was too harsh; the screen looked washed out, and I kept squinting. That’s when I switched to the system-auto setting. macOS now toggles between light and dark based on the time of day and ambient light sensor. It feels like the best of both worlds: a bright, clean UI in the morning when the room is flooded with natural light, and a soothing dark palette once the sun goes down. The automatic switch also syncs with my iPhone, so my whole workflow stays consistent, which helps me stay focused without the mental overhead of manually flipping themes. If I had to pick a single static option, I’d still lean toward auto because it adapts to my environment and keeps my eyes happier throughout the day.
