I'm planning to make my winter activities more efficient and looking for the best combination of ice skating and fitness. Which method would you prefer? 1) Short, intense intervals on the ice followed by light strength training at the gym. 2) Longer endurance sessions on the ice combined with moderate cardio training. 3) Only ice training, but daily stretch and mobility exercises at home. Please share your choice and briefly explain why this option appeals to you the most.

I've been doing Version 1 for two winters now: short, intense intervals on the ice (30s sprint, 90s easy gliding, 6-8 reps), followed by light strength training at the gym—mostly leg and core exercises with moderate weights. The intervals keep my heart rate up and improve explosive power, which is immediately noticeable when skating, while the strength training afterward stabilizes my muscles and prevents injuries. The combination keeps the training varied, optimizes recovery time, and I’ve seen a clear performance boost in both endurance and speed on the ice.
