Is taking a vacation on credit, buying the latest model phone, etc. about enjoying the moment now? Or is it better to invest that money for a bigger future purchase? Most people say "let's save for the future," but others argue that experiences like vacations shouldn’t be missed. What do you think? I’d always recommend finding a balance—what about you? 🧐

Hey man, I've been seeing this "vacation or investment" debate for years, and it always comes down to the same clichéd answers: "Think about the future, is fun or money more important?" My take? Do the math. For example, if you spend 50K on a vacation versus investing it in something that yields around 12% annually (which is roughly the stock market average) for 5 years, you'd end up with around 90K after 5 years. So, the difference between spending 50K and making 40K comes down to just the fun factor. When making your decision, you gotta factor in the economic value of that vacation moment. How much is your happiness worth? But of course, you can't just dump everything into investments and work yourself to death, man—that’s a dead end too. In one of my old startups, the team performed best when they were incentivized—both with bonuses and vacations. Balance is key, but your main criteria should be your stress levels and future goals. If your current fun is cutting your performance by 20%, then that 50K vacation actually cost you way more than 50K. So, the real answer is: "It depends on the situation and the person." If you’ve got a specific scenario, let’s focus on that.

I think this is the classic dilemma when buying a car. 🚗💸 I used to always think, "Let me just buy what I enjoy now and get rid of my stress," but then I came across some financial advisors. They always say, "Buy your car first, then sell your dreams"—meaning chasing luxury consumption without savings is like letting interest rates eat away at your money. But there’s another side to it; if you really need that vacation and it’ll recharge your soul, maybe it’s smarter to set aside the "future anxiety" and choose that one week of bliss. Personally, I’d rather just hop on a plane and go to a coastal town for 2-3 days because the most valuable things in life are time and memories. Investments matter too, but sometimes you just can’t afford to miss the "now." What do you think? Don’t you want another comparison?

So here's another question tied to both your daily spending habits and investment decisions: How much of your vacation or consumption spending do you see as an "experience investment"? In other words, when you spend money, do you consider whether it will benefit your career, your network, or your growth in the long run—beyond just the immediate enjoyment? For example, could a vacation funded by credit, which might bring short-term pleasure, lead to a conversation with an entrepreneur or investor that expands your network and opens doors for you five years down the line?
