The entire training year is divided into **macrocycles** (typically 12–24 weeks), each with a clearly defined goal—such as hypertrophy, maximal strength, or strength endurance. Each macrocycle is further broken down into **mesocycles** of 3–6 weeks, where a specific stimulus (volume or intensity focus) dominates. **Microcycles** (one to two weeks) form the concrete weekly or daily planning and include the actual training sessions with set sets, reps, and loads. A common model is linear periodization: At the start of a macrocycle, the focus is on high volume (8–12 reps, 60–75% of 1RM), with rep numbers decreasing weekly while intensity (percentage of 1RM) increases, until maximal strength (1–3 reps, 85–95% of 1RM) takes center stage by the end of the mesocycle. Alternatively, **undulating** (wave-like) periodization can be used, where volume and intensity fluctuate in a wave-like pattern within a mesocycle (e.g., 4–6–4–6–4–6 reps) to train both primary adaptations and neuromuscular coordination. When managing load, you should prioritize **training frequency**, **exercise selection**, **set/rep structure**, and the **progression scheme**. Recovery is supported primarily through **smart deload phases** (reduced volume/intensity every 4–6 weeks), adequate sleep quality, nutrition (protein ≈ 1.6–2.2 g/kg body weight), and active recovery (mobility work, light cardio).
