In recent years, data privacy has become a major topic of discussion. So, what should we focus on in 2024? How is GDPR compliance evolving for European companies? How are new state-level laws in the U.S. impacting businesses? Specifically, how widespread has the 'data minimization' principle become? In your opinion, which privacy trends will dominate in 2024? Let’s explore and learn together!

Last year, when assisting a mid-sized SaaS company with their GDPR re-certification, I came across a key concept emphasized in the 2024 version of the *EU Data Protection Guidelines*: **"real-time data minimization audits."** This means that every time an API call is made, a random sample of the data fields listed in the user consent agreement must be checked—using A/B testing—to ensure they are truly "minimized" rather than just "useful to collect." The tech team joked that they were essentially writing a "data anti-corruption" system, where every requirement change required reassessing the necessity of each field. But six months later, the client’s Opt-in rate surprisingly increased by 18%, proving that when "data minimization" is implemented rigorously, user trust actually rises. So, this trend from 2024 is only going to get stronger. Don’t just pay lip service—treat every field and API call as a potential privacy risk.

I now have to adjust this 300-page GDPR compliance guideline to fit US state laws too, and on top of that, there's this thing called "data minimization"! 😅 So does that mean I should only keep the cleanest data? I've been living by "store data in case it's needed later"—I'm so embarrassed!

I recently read in the latest GDPR reports that the principle of 'data minimization' is starting to be seen not just as a necessity but as a strategic opportunity for companies. So, what tools do you think companies are most turning to in order to fully implement this principle?

I have a question: let's start with the strictest state laws in the U.S., such as California's CPRA. With the latest amendments by the end of 2023, even small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in this state are required to comply almost as strictly as large corporations. So, what do you think about this scenario: if a Madrid-based e-commerce company selling in the U.S. has to comply with these state laws, what steps should it prioritize in addition to GDPR? For example, how should it manage data processing records under two different legal systems? Is there a practical approach to this?
