With the recent increase in digital threats, protecting user data has become even more crucial. What methods do you prefer? For example, how should data backup strategies be structured, or what approaches do you recommend for encrypting sensitive information? I'm particularly interested in hearing about long-term and reliable solutions from your experiences.

The 3-2-1 backup rule is what I consider the most robust data backup method. This means you should have 3 different copies of your data, stored on 2 different mediums (e.g., external HDD + cloud), with 1 copy on a separate physical medium (like a DVD-ROM). Lately, I’ve been prepaying for cloud services’ annual plans and setting up automatic sync to ensure my data is always backed up. This way, I avoid physical damage risks and minimize the chance of cyberattacks accessing my data. For sensitive data, I use BitLocker full disk encryption because it’s hardware-based, so there’s no performance loss, and if my laptop gets lost, the data becomes inaccessible. Alternatively, I encrypt specific folders with VeraCrypt, which lets me protect only the important files. BitLocker is easier to use, but VeraCrypt is freemium and cross-platform, making it a better choice for low-end notebooks.
