I'm planning my summer training program and wondering which type of bike would suit me best. You have 3 options: 1) Road bike, 2) Mountain bike, 3) Gravel bike. In your opinion, which one is the best for combining speed, endurance, and fun, and why? Share your experiences and the criteria that make you lean towards one choice over another. Your feedback will help me refine my plan.

Personally, I prefer road biking for most of my summer endurance sessions. The lightweight frame, aerodynamic geometry, and close gear ratios allow me to reach high speeds over long stretches of road, which is ideal when you want to combine speed and endurance. Plus, the comfort of the dropped handlebars over long distances reduces muscle fatigue, especially when training several times a week.
That said, I keep a gravel bike in the garage for "fun" rides on mixed terrain or secondary roads where the pavement is less smooth. The gravel bike offers the stability of a mountain bike while maintaining good pedaling efficiency, and it allows you to vary the scenery without sacrificing too much speed. If your schedule includes off-road rides or sandy routes, a mountain bike is still the best choice, but for training focused purely on speed and endurance, a road bike remains the most effective solution.
