Opus has always been my go-to choice. It delivers excellent sound quality with minimal latency and runs very stably in both narrowband and wideband scenarios. We also see it being used as the default on platforms like Discord and TeamSpeak, which is a testament to its reliability.
When it comes to the latency vs. clarity debate, clarity wins for me. Opus outperforms in sensitive conversations or scenarios requiring error correction. For applications that require dedicated audio streaming (like podcast recordings), I usually stick with Opus to minimize latency.
My go-to codec is usually OPUS. It keeps latency low (~20-40ms) and delivers solid audio quality. Compared to CELT, it has better bitrate flexibility and remains stable even on weak connections. During a live coding voice chat with my team, OPUS kept things smooth with almost no stuttering, whereas switching to CELT introduced instability.
As someone who prioritizes low latency, OPUS is my clear choice. Clarity is good enough, and it can auto-correct lost packets. In the projects I’ve used it in, I rarely tried other codecs because OPUS consistently proved to be the most balanced option across all conditions.
