Which domain makes more sense to go with: commercial .com or .io?

Perso, I’d clearly lean towards a .com if your project has a truly international or mass-market scope. It’s still the most recognized and credible TLD, even if some clients might find it a bit *old school*. I’ve seen tech startups switch to .com after struggling with niche .io domains, especially when scaling internationally—big corporations and investors almost always default to .com out of habit.
That said, if your target market is hyper-specialized in tech/startups (SaaS, dev tools, etc.), a .io can work, especially if you want to play up the "modern open-source" or "community-driven" vibe. I used one for a niche open-source project, and it helped project that tight-knit technical ecosystem image. Just be aware that some .io registrations can be pricier than basic .coms, and the TLD’s lack of versatility might become limiting down the line.
