I'm planning a self-hosted environment that can handle both small experiments and growing business applications. What principles and patterns do you follow when building a robust infrastructure? How do you handle network isolation, data backup, and monitoring without relying on proprietary solutions? Which automation tools do you use for deployment and scaling, and how do you manage security and access control? I'd love to hear your experiences and tips for a flexible, maintainable self-hosting setup.

As a beginner, I used to throw everything into Docker Compose and hope the network isolation would magically sort itself out—so far, that’s just given me a bunch of annoying logs to deal with 😂. For backups and monitoring, I go with whatever my cat won’t accidentally delete… 🐱💾. And when everything inevitably crashes, it’s always because of my “advanced” Bash script! 🚀
