Telegram has grown as a platform for sharing information, but the ease of creating anonymous channels has also made it easier to spread fake news and harmful content. Some users suggest that the company should set limits or verification requirements for administrators, while others defend complete freedom of expression. What do you think? Is it reasonable to impose restrictions to protect the community, or is there a risk of excessive censorship? I’d like to hear experiences and arguments, both in favor of stricter regulation and for keeping the current open model. How would you balance security and freedom on Telegram?

Thanks for opening this discussion. Do you think some kind of AI-based automatic verification could be sufficient without compromising administrators' privacy?

Two years ago, when I set up my first web development study group on Telegram, I didn’t think much about privacy and allowed any member to become an admin. Soon after, a new member started sharing links to fake tutorials and “secret” JavaScript tricks that turned out to be malware. The community split—some defended the freedom to share resources without filters, while others demanded stricter control. In the end, I had to shut down the group and start a new one with verified admins and clear rules. The experience taught me that a little oversight doesn’t necessarily stifle expression but does protect users from harmful information. In my case, restricting admin anonymity could have prevented the problem before it spread.
