Do you think the income generated by streamers justifies the necessary investments (gear, time)? Is it viable as a long-term career or just a trend? Personally, I wonder if it's more about passion than business... What do you think?

I remember my early days in the scene back in 2004, when streaming meant 30 viewers and a Pentium 4 heating up to 80 °C. Today the game has changed: high‑end gear and Twitch subscriptions are heavy investments, often underestimated. Monetization clearly depends on the path you take. A streamer starting from scratch with a €2k setup and 50 viewers will need 12–18 months to recoup the hardware, and that’s only if the content actually clicks. Those who start with 50 k followers on Twitter/X before they even go live have a huge advantage—but that’s the exception. The real trap is longevity: 80 % of channels disappear before six months. Twitch is *always* pushing more content, so competition is exploding. If you’re just doing mainstream gaming (Valorant, LoL, CS2…), you’re dead after two years. On the other hand, an ultra‑niche niche (retro hardware, programming with real‑time interactivity) can last for years. Passion vs. business? You need both. Without passion you’ll quit after three months when you see €4 in tips. Without a business mindset, you’ll stay in your corner playing with friends and never take off. The right balance is to create content you enjoy *and* that meets a demand (monetizable). Otherwise it’s just an expensive hobby.
