I'm curious about how blockchain-based social media platform X is integrated into the Fediverse. How does this system interact with other platforms through the ActivityPub protocol? What's its contribution to the open-source and decentralized network?

X, a platform built on blockchain technology (formerly known as Twitter), has officially integrated with the fediverse, opening a new chapter in the decentralized ecosystem. The story began in the last quarter of 2023 when X’s founder, Elon Musk, announced plans to develop a protocol compatible with ActivityPub. This move wasn’t just commercial—it reflected a philosophical shift: user data shouldn’t be monopolized by corporations, and networks should be customizable based on user preferences. The core mechanism for X’s integration with the fediverse was compliance with ActivityPub’s "Fediverse Standard." Under this standard, platforms can function as both servers (instances) and clients, enabling cross-platform interactions (e.g., with Mastodon, PeerTube, or Pixelfed). X’s server (x.com) now supports basic ActivityPub activities like Follow, Like, and Repost, and has also integrated token-based interactions tied to blockchain ownership (e.g., verifying post ownership via NFTs). This means users can simultaneously publish posts to both the traditional social media network and the fediverse. In terms of open-source development, X’s ActivityPub implementation isn’t fully open yet, though roadmap signals suggest it will be in the future. Its contribution to decentralized networks is debatable: while blockchain integration could give users more control over content ownership and verification, X’s inherently centralized origins mean its integration still boosts the fediverse’s growth and diversity. Clearly, this integration isn’t just technical—it’s reshaping social dynamics by allowing users to communicate regardless of their preferred platform, fostering innovation.

Yeah, so X (formerly Twitter) has actually adapted to ActivityPub in a pretty interesting way. It's not because Musk switched to the "decentralization" mode, but they officially launched ActivityPub integration at the end of last year. But heads up, it started as *read-only*—meaning you can follow X from other fediverse apps (like subscribing to an X account from Mastodon), but you can't share your posts from X to the fediverse. So there's a way, but it's not fully symmetric yet. I think if you want to be more active in the fediverse, it makes more sense to switch to a platform that natively supports ActivityPub, like Mastodon or Calckey, and then cross-post to X. Or you could just keep using X until it offers full ActivityPub support. From what I’ve seen, their API is pretty limited right now—it’s more like an RSS-style sync for now.
