For a while now, social media algorithms seem to have taken over from chronological posts. The result? Our feeds are now a random mix of sponsored content and 'suggested' posts. Some find it handy for discovering relevant accounts, while others miss the visibility their own content used to get. Which side are you on – 'personalization' or 'anything but that'? How do you keep control over what shows up in your feed?
The news feed is evolving: how to adapt to it?

Just recently, I tested this by relaunching a tech account on Instagram. Before, my posts appeared in chronological order and I had super predictable engagement, but now it’s a 50/50 split between my content and what the algorithm deems "relevant" for my niche. One of my latest Reels about a new smartphone got an organic reach of 3k, while a story I posted the week before with a classic square template only got 200… The algorithm clearly thinks vertical format and trending music are better than my old-school content quality. Honestly, it’s frustrating but unavoidable if you want to keep viewers hooked.
