Let's say your budget isn't too tight, so you can afford a quality router. But here's the dilemma: should you go for the latest model or one that's been around for a few years and still delivers solid performance? What are your thoughts on mesh systems and Wi-Fi 6 support? When comparing older models to newer ones, what kind of drawbacks do you run into? Do you prioritize cutting-edge tech or stable performance?
Old router or new one? Which would you prefer?

Hey buddy, I've always been one of those who don't go overboard with the latest tech. Take mesh systems, for example: buying a new router with Wi-Fi 6 support is great, sure, but models from 2-3 years ago still perform really well. If your budget allows and you need Wi-Fi 6 mesh, the new model might have 6E support or something like that, which is a plus, but if not, the old model will usually give you the same performance.
The difference between an old router that supports Wi-Fi 6 and a new one is so small that you won’t even notice it, especially if your home doesn’t have more than 10-15 devices connected. If price matters to you, I’d go for an older mesh system because the performance gap is minimal, but the price difference is significant. Say, for example, the Asus RT-AX88U (an older Wi-Fi 6 model) and the newer one have a 200-300 lira difference—I’d take the old one and put the money toward a vacation, no question.
