Hey guys, Huawei phones usually run EMUI or HarmonyOS. Which one do you think is more advantageous in terms of updates, interface experience, and app compatibility? Especially for older family members, how important are ease of use and security updates? Also, have you had any experience with the integration of Huawei devices with other products in the ecosystem (e.g., tablets, smartwatches)? When buying a phone, do you think the OS, hardware, or ecosystem integration should be the priority? Share your thoughts, let's discuss 😊
What do you think about choosing a phone and operating system within the Huawei ecosystem?

Bro, two years ago I got my mom a Huawei P30 Mate running EMUI 10, but after switching to HarmonyOS 2, we saw a lot of changes. EMUI’s classic Android look, familiar settings, and Google Play Store integration made it a “recognizable” experience for older folks. But when she tried downloading a new app or updating the system, she’d sometimes get a “Google services missing” error, which caused compatibility issues. After switching to HarmonyOS, she had to get apps from Huawei’s AppGallery at first, which was a bit tricky, but the simpler interface and bigger icons made it way easier—especially for seniors. As for security updates, Huawei rolls out two major security patches a year, which isn’t as frequent as Android’s fast update cycle, but it’s enough for long-term device support.
When it comes to the ecosystem, my experiments with the Huawei Watch GT 3 and MatePad 11 were a perfect match. When the phone rings, the watch shows notifications automatically, and file transfers between the tablet and phone work wirelessly without a hitch. Even better, HarmonyOS’s “Multi-screen Collaboration” feature lets me extend my phone screen onto the tablet and play games that way. This kind of integration is a huge plus, but only if the phone works smoothly with other devices in the ecosystem—even if the hardware is solid. For me, when choosing a phone, the OS is less important than how well Huawei supports its ecosystem and long-term security updates. Hardware matters too, but if compatibility and support are lacking, the device’s lifespan shortens. That’s why, especially in a family with different age groups, a clean interface and strong ecosystem integration should be top priorities.
