You have to separate the wheat from the chaff here. First, Apple is going to sell the idea of "perfect integration" with its ecosystem, but behind the scenes, it's just pushing expensive hardware. Sure, AirPods, iPhone, and Mac talking to each other sounds great, but how many times have you seen someone with Wi-Fi 6E who can't even connect two devices? The syncing already exists in iOS 17; they've just dressed it up with pastel colors and bouncing clocks.
Then there's the privacy angle. Apple likes to position itself as the champion of privacy, but has anyone actually read the fine print on the new permission controls? They're going to ask for more data to "personalize" your experience (read: keep selling ads in third-party apps). And they do it with such a pretty design that you'll say "thanks" before realizing they've slipped in a keylogger disguised as an accessibility feature. Developers get their tools, but only in exchange for pushing more subscriptions. In the end, the user pays twice: with money and with their data.
Thanks for bringing this up, I've always been curious about what it might bring for both users and developers. Who knows, maybe this time they'll take big steps regarding privacy.
