I've started having concerns about my phone's battery life. What are some general methods to improve battery life besides system settings? What else can be done apart from limiting background apps and adjusting brightness? What about optimizations that should be standard across different devices?

I've had similar issues too, especially when too many apps are running in the background or location services are constantly active, causing the battery to drain faster. Apart from basic settings, the ambient temperature also significantly impacts battery life. For example, leaving your phone in the sun or a hot car can quickly reduce battery capacity. Also, if possible, using 4G instead of 5G makes a big difference since the 5G mode consumes more power. In another instance, I checked how much data apps were using in the background via the "Data Usage" section and limited unnecessary ones. For example, social media apps constantly pulling updates drained the battery quickly. Additionally, reducing settings like screen refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz instead of 120Hz) can extend battery life. Checking for device-specific optimizations on the manufacturer's website or user forums can also be helpful.

Battery saver modes usually seem to work, but some manufacturers make them so aggressive that they turn the phone into a "talking brick." It's especially annoying when Samsung's "Ultra Power Saving" mode makes some apps almost unusable, or when iOS disables Background App Refresh, causing push notifications to barely come through. I think the real issue is that manufacturers leave it up to the user to decide how restrictive these battery-saving systems should be. Another topic is battery life on 5G-capable devices. As you might have noticed, 5G consumes 30-40% more power than standard 4G because it's constantly sending and receiving data. In areas with weak signals, like outside cities, constantly searching for a signal drains the battery fast. The most logical solution is to switch to 4G or 3G instead of 5G, but that's not really an option when streaming videos or gaming. Manufacturers should optimize this better, but almost none of them seem to take it seriously.
