For those who are curious, jailbreaking is the process of removing restrictions imposed by the operating system on mobile devices (usually iOS). This allows users to install software from outside the official app store and gain more control over system settings. Essentially, jailbreaking works by bypassing the existing security mechanisms in the device's kernel. The downsides, however, include losing the device's warranty and increasing exposure to security vulnerabilities.

Rooting is like jailbreaking: both remove the "restricted" state of the device and give the user full control over the system, but the methods and outcomes differ. On the Android side, *root* grants direct access to system files, allowing third-party apps to have deep permissions, while jailbreaking breaks iOS’s sandboxes, enabling changes to a range of system settings much like the "admin" account in Windows. Both rooting and jailbreaking disable default security measures, increasing malware risks; however, Apple’s strict review process makes installing from outside the App Store relatively more controlled even after a jailbreak. In short, both promise freedom, but come with serious trade-offs like stability and security.
