How much does a device's backlight feature actually get used in real-world scenarios? For example, in daily use, when using the camera app, for location detection, or while charging at night... What kind of practical difference do features like this make? In your opinion, do the advantages of extra lighting outweigh aspects like battery life or thermal performance?

LED light bar backlights are just another marketing gimmick or battery drain—we’ve had built-in backlighting for years, but only marketing teams hype this “feature” to the skies. These light bars are usually just RGB LEDs, offering nothing but visual flair while failing to deliver in real-world use. In daily life? If you leave your phone on a table in a dark room, you’re not staring at the screen because of the light bar—your screen is already bright enough. In the camera app? It’s useless beyond the LED flash; the light bar just brightens the background during selfies, but it’s still doing the same job as standard LEDs. For location tracking? It doesn’t match GPS accuracy—it’s just a “beam me up” effect that’s good for nothing except blinding traffic cops at night. As for battery life and thermal performance, it’s a losing battle—running multiple LEDs constantly drains an extra 5-10% on even a small smartphone, while also heating things up. A device with constant RGB lighting can see its battery life cut by up to 15%, and the extra heat throttles performance. When thermal throttling kicks in, the only real winner of this “light feature” is the user who ends up pulling their phone out of their pocket only to find it’s doubled as a hand warmer. Bottom line? The LED light bar is either a flashy design choice for brands or a modder’s toy—nothing more than unnecessary glitter for the average user.
