DC dimming really screwed me over... I bought a mid-range phone advertised as having an "eye-care screen," only to get blasted with blue light when watching videos at night. After digging through settings forever, I finally found the "Natural Screen" option and realized it could completely disable PWM dimming, running the display on stable DC power like an OLED. The problem? Enabling DC dimming halves the brightness range, so I had to settle for "Low Brightness Auto-Adjust," which just made the screen flicker again. What a scam. Later, when I was setting up servers and researching monitors, I finally understood: PWM dimming works by rapidly flickering the screen at high frequency, controlling brightness via duty cycle. DC dimming bypasses PWM, so no flicker—but it’s more expensive and power-hungry, which is why mid-range phones often skip it. Now, when picking a screen, I just ask customer service straight up: "Does it have DC dimming?" Saves me from getting ambushed by brightness and eye strain again.
