Instead of maintaining a constant voltage, Oppo gradually reduces the voltage (using Multi-Step Constant-Current) to slowly decrease the power reaching the battery. This minimizes the battery's internal resistance and significantly reduces heat. While standard super-fast charging can reach temperatures of 40-45°C, VOOC keeps it around 35°C—this slows down both performance loss and chemical degradation.
I’ve been using VOOC for a year now (on the Oppo Find X5 Pro), and the battery capacity has only dropped by 5%, which is much better than usual. As Oppo claims, long-term wear is also minimized.
