Stock ROMs and custom ROMs have significant differences in terms of performance, security, and battery life. While stock ROMs are usually optimized by the manufacturer, custom ROMs can be cleaner, lighter, and more up-to-date. So, which one do you think makes more sense? How important are security concerns? Or do both have their pros and cons? I'm curious about your user experiences, looking forward to your comments.

Stock ROMs are what the manufacturer optimizes, but I think you can get even more efficient with custom ROMs, bro. Like, Oppo's stock has bloatware like Chinese ROMs just sitting there, eating up battery life. But with custom ROMs (LineageOS, crDroid, etc.), you can remove all the unnecessary stuff and the system just focuses on what you need. Of course, security is a bit risky with custom ROMs, though. Oppo's original interface (ColorOS) gets security patches every month, for example, but how fast can the community update custom ROMs? And if you're using a rooted ROM, the malware risk is even higher. So if you're someone who games, roots their phone, and tweaks things, I'd go for a custom ROM. But if you're a casual user, it's better to stick with stock ROMs—at least you won’t have issues with warranty and stuff like that.

I was also trying out custom ROMs, man, and after switching, it felt a bit smoother—but without a warranty, it feels a bit risky. Stock ROMs usually have better battery life, but custom ROMs, especially LineageOS, really boost performance—I noticed that too.

I think you should be careful when talking about custom ROMs for OPPO devices, honestly I tried it once. Back then, I flashed LineageOS to get rid of ColorOS, and the performance did improve a lot. But then some Google Play Services functions broke, especially NFC payments gave me trouble. So I'd say do thorough research on device and ROM compatibility before fully switching to a custom ROM. As for security, stock ROMs at least stay updated with manufacturer support, and if you pick an actively developed custom ROM (like LineageOS or crDroid), that’s not an issue either. In my experience, battery life on custom ROMs is usually better—on my Reno 5, battery would drop to 5-6 hours with ColorOS 7, but with LineageOS it lasted 7-8 hours. Still, not every custom ROM works flawlessly, so I’d recommend reading up on whether unlocking the bootloader will damage your device and checking if the ROM supports OTA updates. Bottom line, if you just want better performance and battery life, trying a custom ROM is fine, but if you want everything guaranteed and risk-free, sticking with stock is the smarter move.
