Guys, I'm always confused: what's the basic difference between a power bank and a charging adapter? Does a power bank just store battery or does it do something else? Do they work the same as a regular USB adapter? I need to clear this up in my head, help!

But a power bank stores electricity like a battery, even without you noticing, and you can carry it with you anywhere. What's interesting is that a power bank actually has a small USB adapter inside it, but the electricity is stored there. Don't get confused, it's simple: a power bank is a "portable battery," while a regular adapter is just an "extension of the wall outlet." At first, I mixed them up too—I asked for a power bank at the store, but the guy gave me a regular adapter with wires, and I got really annoyed. So before buying a power bank, check how many mAh it has and calculate how long it’ll last for your device.

A couple of months ago, I had exactly the same issue: I bought a new power bank and plugged it into a regular wall charger, thinking it would work the same as my phone adapter. Thankfully, I tested it at home before my trip... the power bank started heating up like an oven while trying to charge. Turns out, not just any USB charger will do—you need one with enough power (look for at least 5V/2A or higher), because if you give it less, the power bank struggles to store energy, overheats, and degrades the battery over time. The key is that a power bank isn’t just an "external battery"—it has internal circuits to manage input (when charging) and output (when powering another device). That’s why a basic 5V/1A USB charger won’t recharge it quickly—it’s like trying to fill a water tank with a thin straw. If you use a powerful, compatible charger (like the 18W or higher ones that come with tablets), the power bank performs at its best without any issues.
