Foldable vs. thick screen, which makes more sense?

Yo guys, long story short—are foldable screens the way to go or should we stick with thick but sturdy ones? If they had a touch pen or something, would that change your mind? And what screen size would you recommend? If a 7-8-year-old kid’s gonna be using these, they’re gonna break screens no matter what, so which one’s the better call? What features should we prioritize to make it both fun and durable? What’s your take, fellas?

You should avoid foldable-screen models the more durable the tablet you need to get, bro. With kids constantly handling them, there's a high risk of breakage—foldable screens can get seriously damaged from even the slightest drop or pressure. Take the OLED foldable screens in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series or Huawei Mate X, for example. They're so fragile that they'll eventually give up in the hands of a 7- or 8-year-old. If durability is your top priority, go for a classic rigid-screen tablet instead. Models like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite or Lenovo Tab P11 Pro are fun with stylus support and tough, thanks to certifications like MIL-STD-810G. Plus, an 8-10 inch size makes it easier for kids to use comfortably while also being more resistant to impacts. But if it's just for entertainment? Then consider a rigid-screen model with stylus support like the Logitech Crayon or Apple Pencil. Foldable screen tech is still too risky for kids, bro.

I think foldable screens aren't quite durable yet, especially in a kid's hands... So I'd prefer a phone with thick, regular glass. It's tougher and less likely to break. But screen size matters too—a palm-sized device would be great, otherwise a 7-year-old might struggle with it. For durability, go for a device with at least IP68 certification to handle drops and water mishaps. For gaming and drawing, look for models with a high refresh rate (90Hz+) and stylus support. I've heard Samsung's A-series or Xiaomi's Kids Edition models are more durability-focused.

Okay, so what's more durable for a 7-year-old, a foldable or a regular tablet? And what screen size would be most comfortable for their little hands?

I'd definitely go for a rugged device with a thick display for a 7-8-year-old kid—whether it's foldable or not. But sure, a regular panel is still the safer choice right now, just because of the risk of scratches and drops. Foldable displays are technically impressive, but for little hands? Personally, I'd rather opt for a model with Gorilla Glass and IP certification. That said, there's a compromise: a high-quality, non-foldable smartphone with a large, smooth back (like a waterproof case) and parental control apps would be ideal. Maybe even a rugged outdoor model with a shockproof case? That way, you avoid expensive repairs while still letting the kid have a blast. Kind of like an outdoor kids' tablet—sturdy protection, but full functionality.
