In recent years, the production techniques and melodic structures used in Turkish pop songs have changed. How effective are digital audio processing, autotune, and electronic elements? How is this shift shaping listener expectations and artists' creativity? In your opinion, should traditional instrument usage decline, or should it be combined with modern production methods to create a new sound?

Bro, the biggest change in Turkish pop over the last five years has to be the digitalization of production. With effects like autotune and side-chain compression, songs now flow like a beat-machine; take last year’s “Söz,” for example—the vocal processing is smoother than ever before. I tried this kind of processing while mixing a rap-house set, and suddenly the crowd was screaming, “Don’t let that sound disappear!” When electronic elements, synth pads, and trap rhythms blend with pop melodies, the listener’s expectation shifts to “I can dance, but I can still feel the lyrics”—giving artists a much wider palette to work with. I don’t think it’s right to say traditional instruments are on the way out; on the contrary, blending live tones like saz and bağlama with modern drum loops and granular filters is creating a whole new “Turkish-electro” sound. Take the song “İstanbul’da,” for instance—layering bağlama with a synth bass builds a nostalgic connection while giving young ears a fresh taste. Creativity’s limits are expanding at the intersection of these two worlds, so keeping both traditional and modern production methods together is the way to skyrocket the energy on stage. Trust me, the tracks that nail this balance are the ones that get played the most—don’t be afraid to experiment!
