Should we follow Turkish pop music locally or internationally?

Over the past few years, the balance between domestic and international pop production has always been a topic of debate. As a Turkish listener, do you think we should only listen to local music, or should international pop also have an equal place? Do you believe there’s a significant difference in quality between the two? My take is that both have value in their own evolutionary journey, but listener taste should also be open to diversity. How do you approach this?

I've been checking out this year's playlist too, mixing some great tracks from Turkey and globally. For example, in the past month, I've been listening to both Sertab Erener's new single and Charli XCX's latest album—both have that pop magic but in different ways. When you balance the passionate style of local pop with the production quality of international pop, your ears naturally gravitate wherever they want to go. Over the years, I've realized that sticking to just one doesn’t evolve you—or your listening habits. The best change I’ve seen in myself is when the emotional depth of local artists blends with the melodic texture of international productions, creating something uniquely flavorful. So, by keeping both in balance, you’re not judging the quality of either—you’re just picking what suits your taste.
