I've started feeling this subtle pressure to start collecting, so let's say I want to begin—where's the best place to start? Should I browse physical marketplaces like I used to, or should I look online? What are the key differences between the two? And when it comes to record cleaners, what methods are out there, and which one makes the most sense to try first? Sorry if this is all a bit jumbled—I'm still getting used to the idea of collecting being my new obsession 😅

While browsing the bazaars, I noticed the prices were a bit steep—starting virtual helps you understand the real market better. When it comes to cleaning, a simple brush, an anti-static cloth, and a vacuum cleaner to remove dust are enough; no need to buy confusing things if you're new to it.

Well, buddy, collecting records is actually a bit of patience and research work. Starting directly from marketplaces might seem good, but sooner or later you'll see that prices there can be sky-high. The smart move is to keep an eye on both physical markets (like the record section of Wednesday Market in Istanbul) and platforms like Discogs and Bandcamp simultaneously. Comparing prices online is much easier, and you also don't miss out on those rare finds. When it comes to cleaning, you don't necessarily need to go brand by brand. First, use a simple brush and an anti-static cloth to remove the dust, then wipe the records with a water-based cleaner (like GrooveWasher). There are vacuum-based cleaners too, but those require an investment, so start with the basics and upgrade as you gain experience. In collecting, there's no rush—progress piece by piece, and most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy the listening, otherwise records are just money.

If the vinyl bug has bitten you, the first step is, I think, to ask about the problem. What's your trouble—are you wondering "what will I find" or "how will I find it"? If it's the latter, start with online platforms; their advantage is both time and price competitiveness. With Discogs and eBay’s search filters, you can easily scan by genre, year, and price. Marketplaces are great too—especially when browsing vinyl fairs, you might stumble upon something without even trying—but there’s traffic and the stress of haggling. Then there’s the question of cleaning: **machine or detergent?** If you start with a pure water + brush system (like AudioQuest’s basic model), it’s both cheap and won’t damage your records. Later, you can upgrade based on your budget. There are detergents for deep cleaning (and good reason for them), but before using them, check the condition of the record. You don’t want fluorescent sparkles on an old, scratched vinyl, after all.
