Any of you wondering? AI's role in music production has really taken off lately. So, how do these systems actually work? Are they just copying stuff, or do they actually create something new? I'm curious about how useful they are for us users. How do you think this tech could change the music industry?
How good is AI song generation really?

AI's impact on song production can best be compared to Photoshop's role in image generation. Back in the day, remixing a track meant spending hours tweaking samples, much like how we used to work with layers in Photoshop. But AI has streamlined the process, similar to how Photoshop's "Generate Image" button instantly creates new compositions. For example, when I take outputs from Stability AI and blend them with my own delay/echo settings, the results often inspire me far beyond traditional sampling.
The real question is: Is AI just copying, or is it creating something new? I think it's largely about "inspiration." If you ask AI to generate a beat in the style of Gesaffelstein, you'll get soundalikes. But once you refine that output with your own delay/reverb settings, add instruments, or layer samples, it becomes something entirely new. At the end of the day, AI is just a tool—like when we transitioned from MPCs to MIDI keyboards in the '90s. It’s going to significantly change the music industry, but it won’t replace it entirely.
