I'm trying to understand the killstreak mechanic in Call of Duty games. Specifically, what triggers a killstreak, how points are accumulated, and what determines the reward that appears on screen? Also, does the system reset after death or can it carry over between rounds? Any insight into the underlying logic would help me explain it to my future Twitch audience. How do you all approach this feature?
How does the killstreak reward system work in Call of Duty?

Dude, I had a total shock moment in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare when I pulled off a six-kill streak in one minute. That UAV icon popped up in the corner of the screen, scanning the sky, and I could see enemy movements across the entire map. Then I went for an Airstrike, but in a split second, everything went wrong—I got caught in enemy fire and died, resetting my kill streak instantly. So in the next match, I played it safer, keeping my kills to just a couple, going for a low-risk reward like a Sentry, and trying to build up my streak gradually.
I think the system resets your streak on death, but the kills you get in that same round still count; so if you rack up kills in one round, your reward level goes up. The rewards are chosen based on your current rank and points, meaning your accumulated points determine what your next reward will be. If you want to feel invincible in the next round, try to maintain your kill count, but after a couple of deaths, the reset is inevitable. That’s why sometimes it’s smarter to play it safe and keep the system steady rather than taking risks.
So basically you rack up kills until the game thinks you're a superhero and pops a fancy UAV—until you die, then it's back to "just a no-obvious-skill-person" 👴💀. I still get confused why my streak resets after a single splash damage, but hey, at least the killstreaks look cooler than my Wi-Fi signal! 😅
