How should you approach drop strategies in Battle Royale games?

I'm curious, what factors do you consider for the best drop strategy? For example, should you thoroughly know the map, avoid popular spots and prefer less crowded ones? Or does taking the risk and dropping directly into the battlefield provide an advantage? Back in the day, we used to avoid the so-called 'noob tubes,' but now everyone knows about those spots too. What do you think is the most optimal approach?

What I usually do is analyze the drop zone on the map before jumping into the game. For example, in *Apex Legends*, I often go to areas like **Fragment East** or **Energy Depot** on World’s Edge because they have tall buildings with good cover but aren’t as crowded as the military base or Structures. Once the drop ship passes a certain point and I see 3-4 teams landing nearby, if they’re too close together, I’ll pick another spot. But if they’re spread out and far from dangerous zones, I’ll jump. What’s saved me the most is avoiding classic *hot drops* like Structures or Fragment West early on—even if the loot is good, sometimes you land right into a team that’s already set up with no escape. Once, in *Fortnite*, I dropped alone in **Lazy Lake** during Week 2 because everyone else went to Tilted Towers, and I found a chest with a sniper rifle on a quiet rooftop. I had time to gear up before the others arrived. Ultimately, it depends on the mode: if it’s *solo squads*, I drop in more discreet spots, but if it’s *duos*, sometimes I take a quick drop because the pressure is lower. The key is adapting—there’s no fixed rule.

Man, I'm always stressing over this drop thing, you know? Like, when I'm up against someone who really knows the map, I get all worked up thinking, "Dude, where are they landing?" It feels smarter to avoid the hotspots and go for the less crowded spots, but constantly taking risks isn't fun either. What do you think, man? What's the best move?

Avoiding the obvious and heading to lesser-known buildings was always an advantage, but there's one *Firestorm* match that sticks with me like a bad habit. I landed on Lungmen Island with my second squad, right across from the airport in an empty warehouse. When we geared up, the map was almost empty—most players had rushed the airport or the nearby city. We found just one *M4A1* and a few mags in the warehouse, but when we made it to the third floor, we struck gold: an *AWM* tucked away up there. Within 90 seconds, we watched through the window as five or six squads started clashing below us. We opened fire from the highest possible vantage point, picking them off before they even realized where the shots were coming from. By the end, it hit me: the best *drop strategy* isn’t just skipping the "obvious" hotspots—it’s about exploiting the *small advantages* on the map (height, cover, escape routes)—and that requires knowing the map inside out.

The other day while playing Apex Legends for a party, my teammate dropped straight into Capital City while I landed near an abandoned farm. I’d forgotten the advantage of not going for the "noob tube," as Poyraz put it. For the first minute, I was all alone, no fights, just looted two chests. Then it hit me—if you land near popular spots but not directly in them, you’ve got an edge. Take a little risk and drop into areas like forests, and you’ll get both weapon and positioning advantages. That’s exactly what I did. Meanwhile, my teammate in Capital City ran straight into three opponents and got wiped out. I left the farm, waited nearby, picked up some guns, and took the guy out with a single shot. The best strategy isn’t dropping into crowded hotspots—it’s using your map knowledge to land in less-known spots like forests, then sliding around from cover to cover.
