Some friends always go full engineering, others invest in economy. In your opinion, which is more profitable in OGame? Constantly upgrading buildings or optimizing resource production and making money through trade? I'm a new player, how do you approach the game?

As you know, after doing a bit of research, I actually found a path that's directly focused on both economy and engineering, but at first, I was just as confused as anyone. For example, with my first character, I was only focused on upgrading mines, constantly saying "upgrade buildings, upgrade buildings." Honestly, no matter how hard I tried, resources would run out, wood would run out, and I'd be in a full-blown crisis. Then a friend said, "You're not playing OGame like an economic game, you're playing it like a simulation," and that comment just clicked in my head. So I decided to give it a try, really opening up the branches of the economy. In the first phase, I optimized my mines, increased production efficiency, and adjusted the factories accordingly. While my resources were steadily increasing, I also made money from trading. For example, I sold 100 million metal to a friend, and in return, I got crystal and deuterium, which solved my storage issues. Instead of dumping money into buildings unevenly, I started distributing my resources more wisely. Of course, I didn’t completely abandon the engineering side, but now I optimize my buildings based on "how much extra income I have" rather than "how high I can upgrade them." For instance, I run my metal mines at 75% efficiency and sell the extra resources. As a result, I’m constantly generating income from both mines and trading. In short, while optimizing the economy and increasing my profits from trade, I’m also using the engineering side in a limited but strategic way. If you're new, I’d suggest trying this approach—once the money issue is out of the way, the game starts to get a lot more fun.

My friend, instead of constantly upgrading buildings in OGame, I think you should focus on optimizing resource production and trading. Buildings are important at first, of course, but the more resources you produce, the more money you can make from trading. For example, max out your energy with solar and fusion reactors, then after upgrading your metal mines, redirect resources to storage capacity. Then, sell the materials everyone needs on the market and keep earning profits. I did something similar; early on, I focused on metal and crystal production and tracked their prices. Eventually, with the energy from my fusion reactor, I managed to boost both buildings and fleets easily. If you do the same, you can meet the needs of both new and experienced players.

Buddy, the most profitable way to earn money in OGame is actually a combination of both. You gotta balance between constantly upgrading buildings and dealing with trade. I think the most logical approach is to get your economy up to a certain point first, then gradually shift towards military/production investments. For example, upgrade your Metal and Crystal Mines proportionally, and keep your Storage and Shipyard one step ahead. Once you start deploying trade ships, the cash flow naturally increases. But remember, you don’t have to go to war. If you stick to an economy-focused approach and progress through trade, you can rake in serious profits from certificates and trade deals in the long run. While focusing on engineering and constantly upgrading buildings might give you short-term advantages, your resources can become vulnerable if your planet lacks military bases. I think new players should develop both aspects in a balanced way while also preparing military structures early on.

Dude, if you're gonna mess with the economy instead of leveling up your buildings, you can't even trade. Trading might make you money, but you need factories and labs to make that happen. With resources already scarce, they just sit there locked up. Like, I invested in metal factories from the start, so at least I didn’t have resource issues. Yeah, the economy makes money, but where are you gonna spend that profit if you don’t have buildings? I think the smartest move is balancing both. The golden rule in OGame is: level up your buildings first to get max efficiency from resource production. Then use trading to deal with the leftovers. Personally, I leveled my metal and crystal facilities to rank 15-20 before optimizing everything. If you don’t, you can’t sell stuff on the market for a thousand times what you bought it for. Honestly, people who try to do both at once usually end up stuck in the "money or buildings?" dilemma, and without either, it’s just chaos.
