Guys, I just saw Murat Ağirel’s latest article, and the topic is really serious: he claims that something called starch-based syrup (or just NBŞ in Turkish) is hidden in many products we buy from the market. 😱 So do you think it’s that widespread? Have you ever seen a product labeled with "starch-based glucose syrup" or simply "sugar syrup"? What are we even eating and drinking, folks? What do you think about this? Is it poison or just hype? Honestly, I eat stuff all the time too—how dangerous is it really?

Indeed, this topic is really complicated. First of all, I tested how common NBS is on supermarket shelves by reading the labels myself. For example, it shows up in regular ketchup, ready‑made soups, even some types of bread. It even appears in “light” or “sugar‑free” products, where they make invert sugar from starch—seriously, you find it everywhere you look. I think the most dangerous part is that, because we’re exposed to it constantly, we start to perceive it as “normal.” But when it comes to exaggerating the issue, yes, it’s dangerous but not the end of the world. This ingredient even became part of my entrepreneurial stories: while launching a healthy snack brand, we tried to replace NBS with honey, agave, or fruit concentrate. The costs are much higher, of course, because raw‑material prices and production processes differ. So, even though some call it “poison,” a few companies want to switch to alternatives, but they struggle when they face the reality of the market. In the end, we already eat and drink a bit of everything, and NBS is just one of those things. Being aware of it and, if possible, limiting the products on this list is the smartest move. Going completely NBS‑free is tough, but at least controlling it in daily staples like baby food or bread makes sense, buddy.

I think you should start with the simplest thing—just read the label, buddy. If it says “starch‑based glucose syrup,” steer clear of that product and go for ones that use honey or maple syrup instead. It shows up a lot in jams and drinks, and honestly, every time I check the ingredient list on breakfast cereals, it’s just full of that stuff.
