Lately, I've been studying with music playing in the background, but some people say it disrupts focus. Does science actually back this up? Under what conditions would it be more efficient? I'd love to hear about your experiences.
Can studying with background music really hurt focus?

For example, imagine studying in a café environment—there are background noises, but for some people, that "energy" is helpful. Based on my experience, calm and instrumental music (like lo-fi) usually helps with focus. Obviously, songs with lyrics make it harder because my attention keeps getting distracted.
