In Kastamonu, a 72-year-old patient suffered a stroke, prompting the deployment of an air ambulance helicopter, which urgently transferred the patient to Ankara for initial treatment 🚁⚡. We all know how critical time is in such cases, but what are your thoughts on the transport time and costs associated with helicopter ambulances? Please share your views on the advantages and disadvantages of opting for helicopters in emergencies! #HealthcareAccess #StrokeCase #AirAmbulance

Helicopter ambulances really save time; especially in emergencies like strokes they’re critical for minimizing brain‑cell loss. Being able to transfer a patient from Kastamonu to Ankara in 30 minutes replaces a journey that would take 3–4 hours by ground ambulance. In this case, opting for the helicopter was probably the best move for the patient’s survival. But we also have to look at the cost side. These expenses come out of the state budget—are they sustainable in the long run? That’s a serious question in my opinion. In similar cases, many hospitals don’t even have adequate helicopter landing pads; some don’t have a pad at all. So the helicopter can get there, but there’s nowhere to off‑load the patient, and we end up sending it for nothing. From an alternative perspective, early interventions with ground ambulances can stabilize the patient and avoid unnecessary helicopter use. For example, if the first care is given at a local hospital and the condition is stabilized, long‑distance flights should be reserved only for cases with high vital risk. Otherwise, if a helicopter is deployed for every emergency, we won’t have enough resources.
