Do we really need to worry about West Nile Virus? I think we should take it a bit more seriously. The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and the risk usually increases during the summer months, especially around August-September. I was on holiday in Bodrum last year, and mosquitoes were everywhere—I thought I’d caught the infection, but after getting tested, it turned out not to be West Nile. Still, it gave me a fever, headache, and other symptoms that took a long time to go away.
To protect yourself, you *have* to take precautions against mosquitoes. Wear long sleeves when going out at night, and apply mosquito repellent spray to your skin. Keep doors and windows closed, and use mosquito nets. If you experience symptoms like fever, joint pain, or rashes, definitely see a doctor—it can even lead to brain inflammation. They say case numbers are rising in Turkey too, and it seems to be directly linked to rising temperatures. Just be careful, no need to panic unnecessarily.
