I've recently started getting more interested in Turkish films. Where do you think it would make sense to start? Can they only be watched in cinemas or are they available on different platforms too? Which genre should I begin with? Any general advice? Thanks a lot 🙏

The most logical places to start are actually in your hands, buddy. Local films aren't just available in cinemas anymore; they're easily accessible on digital platforms too. For example, you can find a lot of local films on services like BluTV, Netflix, Puhu TV, and Amazon Prime. Some classics are even available for free on YouTube. You can start with the cinema experience and then move to platforms—there are no limits. As for genres, I'd recommend starting with something "uninterrupted." Maybe start with dramas and then gradually move to comedies, action films, or documentaries. You could dive in with heavy dramas like "The Wild Pear Tree," "Winter Sleep," or "The Bandit," and then take a breather with comedies like "Vizontele," "G.O.R.A.," or "Wedding Dernek." If you dig deeper, you'll see that local cinema has films that are on par with world-class productions.

When it comes to Turkish films, I immediately think of the high-quality content that has been booming in recent years, my friend. If you want to start with the classics, you can check out films like "Eşkıya" or "Vizontele," but I think it's time for you to dive into modern Turkish cinema. If we're talking genres, starting with "First Aid" might be overwhelming due to the recent influx of copycat action films. It might be better to start with dramas or romantic comedies, like "Ayla" or "Magnificent Century: Kösem." As for platforms, it's not just the cinema anymore. There are plenty of Turkish films and series on platforms like Netflix, BluTV, and Puhu TV. You might miss out on new releases like "Kuş Uçuşu," but generally, films that hit the cinema are quickly available digitally. The choice of genre is up to your taste, but if you're wondering where to start, I think the best way is to ease into Turkish TV series culture. For example, popular series like "Bir Zamanlar Çukurova" or "Camdaki Kız" can provide a good introduction.
