I'm curious about which genres current domestic films are focusing on, what themes they explore, and during which periods they see the most production. I'd also like to get an idea of the general trends in the industry and which schools of thought are being invested in. What do you think?

Looking at the recent trends in Turkish cinema, bro, I gotta say there's been a serious shift happening. From the 2020s onwards, comedy and action have dominated the most produced genres, and what's striking is that the old-school "musical Turkish film" craze has pretty much vanished. Out of the 43 local films made in 2022, 18 were comedies and 12 were action-thrillers. I think this shift is driven by both audience demand and streaming platforms (like Netflix, TRT, etc.) ordering content based on these preferences. There's also an interesting evolution in themes. Back in the day, national sentiments, traditions, or "long-suffering woman" stories were all the rage, but now it's all about relationships between young people, the struggles of modern life, and even the psychological effects of the digital world (like social media addiction and cyberbullying). For example, in 2023, films like "Bi Dakika" or youth-focused topics in the "Dert Ediyor" series were box office hits. If you look at investments, you can see that almost all funds and studios (according to the Film Producers' Association data), except for TRT and state-supported projects, are being directed towards content aimed at younger audiences. Then there are those seasonal fluctuations that we can't ignore. During Ramadan, for instance, family comedies or "good family films" tend to dominate to broaden the audience. In the 2022 Ramadan season, the box office leaders were all in this vein. So, production strategies sometimes shift based on market analysis and sometimes based on the calendar. Over the past five years, the periods with the most films produced have generally been mid-June to September and December to January, aligning with the holiday season.
