What do you think are the general challenges that local cinema struggles with or the advantages it has? From a technical standpoint, what factors might affect the quality of local films? In which stages—from screenwriting to cinematography, distribution to marketing—do we fall short? In your opinion, what should be the role of the government or the private sector in this regard?

Are local movies mostly stuck in screenwriting? What do you think? In recent years, instead of adding depth to characters, local films keep using those cramped story formulas. For example, under the label “family drama,” have the number of movies where everyone looks down on each other, filled with melodramatic dialogue but feeling more like a marketing gimmick than a story, decreased? Instead of fleshing out a character thoroughly, filmmakers settle for cheap shortcuts that tie everything up in the ending. Yet in world cinema, good screenwriting means being able to convey a character’s inner world breathlessly. I think that’s almost nonexistent in local films.
